"When I was young I set out to change the world.
When I grew older I perceived that this was too ambitious,
so I set out to change my state.
This too, I realized as I grew older, was too ambitious,
so I set out to change my town.
When I realized that I could not do even this, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man I know that I should have started by changing myself.
If I had started with myself, maybe then I would have succeeded
in changing my family, the town, or even the state-
and who knows, maybe the world."

Behind ThingS

♫ ~

We are on a mission and we are almost there to discover meaningful things... I dream.

What is "ThingS" meant for

Things happen everyday. We rarely can foresee the things, but perhaps can understand things first.

ThingS, literally things. Also, a simple thing of perception or context or idea, but not simpler. Things can become complex (or misunderstood/confused). Basic is: the thing we see is one thing (object/physical/existed), and the thing we think we see is one thing (thought/mental/imagined). Quite clear.

But, what if a person and other people are telling you that they see different things?? Will you still see the thing as you see?? Which ever it is that you think you see the thing, accordingly you decide to take action (or not). Often the "right" thing to do. Things happened, and the things around may be changed. They are somehow connected like a loop of things in life.

How the things could have become, if we decide to think and do things a third alternative way. This takes time and the things will turn into different things.

"Neuro ThingS" untangled

Slightly simple science helps to understand things. How we see things has to do with our brain:

A thing (more amazing than a computer) inside our head containing complex networks of numerous tiny things, so-called neurons, that somehow know and do complex things, e.g. imagination and perception, and interact with the outside world.

On new posts labelled Neuro ThingS, we see the neuroscience of things. A glance at some research work to learn things. Appreciate the why and how to question things, which is probably how Science people see things. Neuro ThingS was started in... blah blah (save that). Okay, how is this a thing??

Who is behind the "ThingS"

I'm the guy named HANG, Chong Yee, PhD A Malaysia guy who aspires to solve problems and see what's behind things. I chose to become a scientist by profession. What I do is studying about brain and behavior in animals and trying to better understand human things and maybe do something more. Few publications for now. On the other hand, I practice aikido and like to read things or just relax or sometimes go travel. And, I write ThingS.

ThingS means something special. In year 2016, I changed my blog giving it a new title with an icon and a purpose. A new chapter began. Because I have changed, maybe. Before this, the content and the writing style lacked focus (and English needed fixes). 200+ old posts (skip that and move on). Here, a quick look backwards on my 'Hero Story' version. I recall what's the first thing posted back in year 2006. Always remember. So 10 years passed by and ready for the next. I continue evolve so does ThingS. Do you know how to use "thing"?

Things is like water. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see; but if you allow it to settle, the things becomes clear. Check out the animation at the bottom page.
